Personal Care in Naples, Florida
Personal care is hands-on help with the routines most of us do without thinking: washing, dressing, getting to the bathroom, moving from bed to chair. Clinicians call these activities of daily living, or ADLs. When an illness, surgery, arthritis or age makes them harder, a trained person alongside you can keep them safe and keep them yours.
RMD Home Care Services is a Florida nurse registry. We refer independent care professionals to families in Naples; they are not RMD employees, and a referral is not a promise of a specific schedule. What we do is listen to what the day actually looks like and introduce you to professionals suited to it.
Who personal care helps
Most people who ask about personal care are in one of a few situations. A parent can no longer step into the shower confidently. A spouse is recovering from a fall and needs steadying. Someone living with Parkinson's, a stroke or memory loss manages most of the day but struggles at particular moments, usually morning and evening. Sometimes it is a family caregiver who has been doing everything and has reached the limit of what is physically safe.
Activities of daily living we plan around
A referral conversation starts by naming which ADLs need support and how much. Needing a hand on the elbow is very different from needing full assistance.
- Bathing and showering, including setting up the bathroom, supervising transfers and washing hair
- Dressing, choosing weather-appropriate clothing and managing buttons, compression stockings or shoes
- Grooming: shaving, oral care, nail care, skin moisturizing and hair
- Toileting and continence care, handled calmly and discreetly
- Mobility: walking with a cane or walker, getting out of bed, safe seating and position changes
- Eating support, such as setting up meals, cueing, and sitting with someone who tires easily
- Light notes for the family about how the day went, so nothing is lost between visits
Dignity and privacy are part of the job
Being helped with a bath changes a relationship, and the manner matters as much as the technique. Good personal care means knocking, explaining each step before it happens, keeping people covered, and letting them do whatever they still can. If your mother wants a female caregiver, or your father has always shaved before breakfast, say so. We pass those preferences on before the first visit, and they are a legitimate reason to ask for a different match.
How often, and for how long
Start with the parts of the day that need support. A morning visit may focus on bathing and dressing, while an evening visit may cover the bedtime routine. Longer daytime coverage can combine personal care with meals and company. Discuss daily, several-days-a-week or temporary support with RMD, subject to professional availability. Confirm rates, minimum visit requirements, payment arrangements and the agreed tasks before care begins.
Serving Naples
We refer professionals for homes in Naples and nearby Southwest Florida communities. Availability varies by neighborhood, time of day and the skills you need, so give us your address when you call and we will tell you honestly what looks workable.
How to prepare for the first conversation
- Write down the one or two moments each day that are hardest
- Check the bathroom: grab bars, a shower chair, non-slip mats, and whether a walker fits through the door
- Note any physical limits, allergies, skin sensitivities and what the person's doctor has said about activity
- List the preferences that make someone feel respected, from water temperature to who helps
- Decide who in the family should receive updates
Getting started
Call the care consultation line or send a request online. We ask about the person, the routine and your goals, then suggest professionals to meet. You decide whether the match feels right. A short trial visit with you present is a sensible way to see how comfortable everyone is.
Questions families ask
- Does personal care include nursing tasks?
- No. Personal care is non-clinical. If the person's doctor has ordered nursing care, that is a separate need handled by a licensed nurse working within their scope, and you can ask us about RN and LPN referrals.
- Can one person help with bathing and also with meals?
- Often, yes. Many personal care referrals combine ADL help with light homemaker tasks. Tell us the full list so the match is made on all of it.
- What if my father refuses help?
- Resistance is common and usually about pride or fear. Starting with a small task, scheduling around his best time of day and keeping the same person each visit tends to help. Share what you have noticed.
